This support section will provide documentation on various topics of general use to researchers, systems administrators, and others on campus.

Systems Administration

We support the following packages used in Systems Administration and configuration management.

Linux

Software

The following software packages are very useful in systems administration. We use many of them extensively. These pages document how we use them.

APT

APT is a package manager that is used primarily on Debian-based Linux systems, including most of our clusters.

Modules

Modules is an environment manager that makes software available to users. We use it extensively on our clusters. Visit our software environments page for more information on using our modules.

Puppet

We use Puppet extensively internally for infrastructure, cluster, and configuration management. Visit our Puppet page for more information.

RPM

RPM is a package manager that is used primarily on RedHat-based linux systems.

DokuWiki

Dokuwiki is the software that drives this wiki.

BackupPC

BackupPC is an efficient backup system for centrally backing up remote systems.
